What to do in Moyo Island, and life around the island

The only way to get to Moyo Island is by going to Sumbawa first. You can reach Sumbawa with a boat from Lombok, or by flying to the capital of the island: Sumbawa Besar. The harbor to go to Moyo Island is in Sumbawa Besar. The boat departs every morning from the harbor in Sumbawa Besar. There is no fixed schedule, or any place to buy tickets, so you just have to go there, and hope for the best.

Moyo Island is known for its beautiful waterfalls, amazing beaches and diving and snorkeling. In the village of the harbor, there are multiple accommodation options that have diving and snorkeling equipment. We stayed at Maleo Moyo Hotel & Dive Resort, where we could rent snorkeling equipment for the whole day. The best snorkeling spot is right before the beaches in front of the accommodation. You can just walk out to the beach and go into the water. You can also go to the harbor, and ask some of the fishermen to take you out to the sea, where you can also go snorkeling. They know the best spots in the area, and you could not get to them without having a boat.

We also decided to walk to the Mata Jitu Waterfall, which is a limestone, multi-terraced waterfall. To get here you will have to walk through the forest/jungle, before arriving at the waterfall. You can swim here as well. This waterfall is known in the area because Princess Diana once visited it.

Moyo island also has beautiful sunsets, available right at the beaches next to the accommodation.
