Pingshanghu Grand Canyon

Pingshanghu Grand Canyon travel guide

Important information

120 yuan (around 15 euro) for a basic ticket
3 hours

How to get here?

The best way to go here is by booking it through your hotel or hostel. We got a round trip minivan for 50 yuan. This price is not included in the price for the entrance of the canyon. There is a possibility for public transport, but this bus costs more than the mini-bus we booked. So I wouldn’t recommend this.

What to do?

When you arrive at the ticket office you have to enter a bus, which brings you to the actual canyon, this bus will take 25 minutes. The canyon starts with a few viewpoints you can visit to see the surroundings. If you continue walking along the wooden boardwalk you eventually get to the canyon. You can walk through the canyon until you use a stair to go up. There are other ways of going up, which are more adventurous, which you can also choose, but this is optional. When you arrive at the top, you can enter a bus again which will bring you back to the ticket office. This is the only place to board this bus. This bus will take 30 minutes. The area around the canyon is also beautiful with a lot of mountains.

Weather and clothing

We were at the canyon at the start of May, and even though the weather in the city was sunny, the weather at the canyon was strong winds and a temperature around 0 degrees celsius. So depending on the season you have to be prepared for colder temperatures. You don’t need any special shoes, since you will be walking on wooden boardwalk, or steel stairs.

Additional information

No need to make a reservation, but bring your passport since it’s mandatory in China to always carry your passport. You have a more expensive ticket, which will give you access to another part of the canyon. We didn’t choose this option. because it includes riding a camel, which we didn’t want to do because of animal welfare.
