Terracotta Army travel guide

Important information

120 yuan (around 15 euros)
2 to 4 hours

How to get here?

The cheapest way to get to the Terracotta Army is by going to the HuaqingChi metro station. You can find this metro station in metro line 9. When arriving at the station, walk to the bus station. There you can find special buses which will bring you to the entrance for 5 yuan (around 60 cents) per person. Depending on your location in the city, you will have a travel time between 1 or 2 hours. You can go back to Xi'an with the same bus and metro.

The easiest way to get to the Terracotta Army is by getting a Didi, but this will also be more expensive. You can check the price in the Didi app.

What to do?

Inside the park you will have 3 pits, which you can visit. Pit 1 is the most famous pit, with the most statues, and will be the highlight of the visit. Pit 2 and 3 are smaller, but also good to visit if you want to see everything.

Another highlight will be the museum area, where you can see the statues up close. You can also get more information about the statues, and the history of the army.

Once you are done in the main area, you can visit the Lishan Garden. There are free buses going from the main area, to the area of the garden. This is automatically included in your ticket. If you have the time you can visit this area, but apart from some excavation pits and mausoleums there isn’t a lot you can do here.

Weather and clothing

You will be inside for most of the time, but bring the correct clothing for the current season. Normal shoes are fine since you won’t be doing that much walking.

Additional information

There is no need to order tickets in advance! You can arrive at the Terracotta Army, and walk straight to the ticket office. Here you can buy your tickets, and immediately enter the main area. Bring your passport for buying the tickets.

Outside the ticket area there will be guides, if you want you can try and get a guide here. The price you pay can change depending on your negotiation skills, but expect to pay around 300 (around 28 euros) yuan. This is optional, you don’t need a guide, and can also go inside the park on your own.

Inside the park you can also buy an audio tour, which will cost around 50 yuan (around 6,5 euros) per person. The audio tour can be a good cheaper option instead of the guide. I took this option, and the additional information was good. The only downside is that it might be hard to focus on the audio, inside the crowds around the pits.
